Aeronautical Information
Whanganui Airport has a total of four runways consisting of one sealed runway and three grass vectors. The airport is certificated under Part 139 of the NZ Civil Aviation Regulations, Certificate Number AD 29693. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) completes Safety Audits annually, the most recent in September 2019 being a re-certification for the next five years. As required by Part 139 the airport has an in-house Operations Manual and an Emergency Management Plan.
Crash Rescue
There are no crash rescue facilities located on the airfield and none are required by CAA regulations. The NZ Fire Service and NZ Police are responsible for these functions, although the airport does maintain plans and conduct regular exercises to test the emergency services.
Whanganui Airport is an unattended airport without Air Traffic Control, however, services, including lighting, are available to ensure safe and convenient operations. For all Airport Operational Information see:

- Over Weight Aircraft - Aircraft exceeding ACN 12 require prior approval to land. This will normally be given on a case by case basis – Please contact the Airport Duty Officer - 06 349 3199
- Safety - We take safe operations seriously, please observe good airmanship and observe all operational requirements. Note that Whanganui has a dual left/right circuit pattern, please check the operational data before arrival.
- Landing Fees - Landing fees will be billed to the registered owner of the aircraft at the end of the month. There is no on-site payment option available.
